We tried writing two songs about the phoenix in parallel that could be sung in counterpoint - Cecilia's is Phoenix in Autumn and mine is The Spring Phoenix. This was kind of an experiment for FAWM! I supplied the chord progression and a rough vocal recording and Cecilia fit her lyrics and instrumentals beautifully! Thank you so much, Cecilia, for proposing it, I would not have had the cheek to ask you! #collaboration #filk #phoenix

From ashes old, a flame begins, a new-born bird will rise

With feathers of a flaming gold, and fire in its eyes.
It stretches out its mighty wings, ablaze with second birth,
Creates the warming wind that brings renewal to the earth.

With every fiery death and fallow time in ashes deep,
The phoenix loses all and yet its powers only sleep.
The phoenix springs resurgent in a sign of hope and change,
To bring new life from ruins, dying structures rearrange.

So let this bird, with feathers bright, send peace into our hearts –
For though the old way seems to end, another journey starts.
So let the phoenix soar again, into the springtime sky,
For though it dies, it lives again – and so mote you and I.
